The following is a guest post from Jacki of Crazy Life With Littles, enjoy!

Cold brew is one of those growing trends you realize you just can’t live without. Until your wallet takes a hit at $4-5 a pop at your local coffee shop. No thank you. Surprisingly though, making cold brew coffee at home is super easy.

Mom Life Must Have’s very own Gina introduced me to the Toddy System for preparing the easiest batch of cold brew ever. The Toddy System is fairly inexpensive and extremely low-tech to use, but makes the process a little less tedious than others.

How to Make Cold Brew Coffee at Home

The Toddy System (available on Amazon for $34.99) is the easiest, most inexpensive way to brew your own cold brew coffee at home.

1. Plug it.

Place the plug in the bottom of the brewing container.

2. Insert filter.

Dampen the filter and insert into the brewing container.

3. Insert a paper filter.

The Toddy System comes with a pack of reusable filters (shown above) and paper filters. I definitely recommend using the paper filters along with the reusable filter for a smoother cold brew.

4. Grab your grounds.

Grab your favorite fresh ground coffee. We love this 100% Arabica coffee. The Toddy instruction booklet calls for 12 oz of coffee grounds which is exactly what you’ll get in that bag. (You can half the recipe too!)

5. Add water.

Once your grounds are in the filter, add your water. (7 cups of water for a 12 oz bag of coffee. If halving then 3.5 cups for 6 oz of coffee.)

6. Mix gently.

Stir to combine, being careful not to break your paper filter. Once combined, gently twist the paper filter at the top to close and let sit at room temperature for 12-24 hours, depending on how strong you prefer. I would recommend starting at 12 hours and seeing how you like it at that point. You can always increase the time for the next batch.

7. Filter it.

Once 12-24 hours has passed, grab your glass decanter (or mason jar if you’re not using the Toddy System). Using the handle, lift the brewing container over the decanter and pull the plug on the bottom to release the coffee. You will need to move rather quickly and possibly do this step over the sink. (My first time got a little messy LOL) Store in the refrigerator.

Suggestion: Don’t toss the grounds! There are so many different things you can do with them including a coffee scrub, neutralize odors in your home, or use them in your garden.

How to Prepare Cold Brew Coffee

The Toddy System brews a concentrated cold brew coffee. To prepare it’s recommend to start with a 3:1 ratio; 1 part cold brew to 2 parts water, milk or cream. I like to fill my tumbler with ice, fill halfway with water, a splash of my favorite creamer and pour cold brew to the top.

A: No! While not required since it does have the reusable filter, it makes for a cleaner process.

thanks for the post! I purchased a Toddy from a friend who didn’t want it and it’s been sitting in my cupboard much like it was sitting in hers! LOL. Does the coffee need to be course grind or does any grind work? Thanks again.
